Rainforest North Queensland

tropical rainforest are usually located near the equator. Tropical rainforest gets heavy rainfall all the time. One of the best tropical rainforests in the world are the North Queensland rainforests. These rainforests stretches up to 849,000 hectares from Townsville up to Cooktown. The North Queensland tropical rainforests are protected by the world heritage.

Tropical Rainforest

A tropical rainforest is composed of tall trees heavy rainfalls, and a year round warmth. There are so many different kinds of species of trees in tropical rainforests. You will find the most species of trees in rainforests than any other parts of the world. There are also plenty of species of reptiles, mammals, insects, birds and other animals in rainforests. The top of the trees have leaves that serves as canopy for the animals and plants that lives in the rainforests grounds. This means the ground of the rainforest only gets 1% of the sunlight that the above portion receives. Because of this small amount of sunlight, there are very few bushes in the rainforest floor. The rainforest is also very humid, because it gets a lot of rain most of the time. However, you will notice that there is an opposite in the rainforest when it comes to temperature, because it is cooler in the summer and warmer during the winter.

North Queensland

You will find the world heritage of rainforest and reef converge in the middle of Bloomfield and Cape Tribulation just north of Cairns. This is the only place in the world were two of the best wonders of the wold are situated side b side and is very easy for tourists to access. This is the biggest rainforests wilderness in Australia. The wet tropics serves as the habitat for so many different kinds of animals and plants. There are around 483 kinds of plants in this area. However, 83 of these plants are already considered threatened in the list of endangered plants. There are also around 25 species of animals that are very rare in this area. Some of these animals are the southern cassowary, yellow bellied glider, spotted tailed quoll, and the tailed bettong. There are numerous fern allies and ferns in this area. The North Queensland rainforest is considered as the richest concentration of these plants in all of Australia. There are 46 species of ferns that can only be found exclusive in this area. You will also be able to see the musky rat kangaroo in this area. 30% of the marsupial species in Australia can be found in the wet tropics. 58% of the bat species in Australia, 25% of the frog species and 23% of the reptile species can also be found in the wet tropics. 62% of the butterfly species and 18% of the bird species in Australia are in this area. Not only some of the world’s greatest tropical rainforests can be found in North Queensland, but The Great barrier Reef as well.
